Commissioners met with County Clerk Tina Spencer in closed session for 40 minutes Monday discussing possible changes in employees’ salary schedules.
April 30 during a special payday meeting, Rebecca Crowder of the Austin Peters Group presented a market wage study reviewing all county positions for proper placement within the current pay plan. Overall, she said the county’s wages are nearly 9 percent behind those of its market peers.
The study estimated it would cost the county about $189,000 per year to implement recommendations.
“The pay plan hasn’t been consistent,” Chairman Roger Fleming said. “That’s why we’re trying to figure a new way to do things.”
No decision was made out of the closed session, but commissioners continued to discuss different ideas dealing with department budgets and promotions.
“We still don’t know,” Fleming said.

- Letters and certificates of appreciation were sent to Peabody-Burns Elementary School for help with the countywide community service day Sunday.

- Commissioners approved the purchase of a $2,388 HP computer for the clerk’s office and a $2,689 HP LS Enterprise copy machine for the health department.
- Commissioners approved a bid from Community National Bank and Trust for two motor graders for five years of use in the road and bridge department. The bid came in at 2.28 percent interest. The graders cost $348,700 together.

The commission had a special meeting April 30 for payday and other items of discussion.
- A request of proposals will be drafted for installation of a new parking area including two van accessible spots, new steps at the south entrance of the courthouse, and replacement of a section of sidewalk on the southwest corner.
- Sales tax in the county for February was received at $51,748, while special county half-cent sales tax distribution for repayment of jail bonds was received at $45,161.
- Commissioners approved Susan Mayo to have a fireworks display May 10 at her home near Peabody for a graduation party, as long as conditions are favorable and no burn ban is in place.
