The past week was a good one for the Centre High School boys’ basketball team. They defeated Elyria in a home game and Wakefield on the road. Their record now stands at 8-11.

Consistent scoring the final three quarters helped them earn a victory Friday at Wakefield. Centre’s 8 points in the first quarter came from two 3-pointers by Kordell Harding and a field goal by Kyle Methvin. They were joined by Ty Simons, James Wyatt, and Justin Deines in scoring 15 points in the second period. Centre led, 23-22, at halftime.

The Cougars outscored Wakefield 16-9 and 16-14 in the final two quarters to win by 10 points.

Harding led scoring with 19 points, followed by Simons with 12 and Justin Deines with 11. Other scorers were Grant Srajer 4, Shane Methvin and Kyle Methvin 3 each, Trevor Hageberg 2, and Wyatt 1.

Kyle Methvin led at the boards with 9 rebounds. Srajer and Deines each provided 4 assists.

Deines opened the overtime with a driving layup. Elyria matched it with two free throws, but a 3-pointer by Wyatt put Centre in the lead for good.

Wyatt added another 3-pointer and Deines made 10 free throws, resulting in a 7-point victory for the Cougars.
