The Centre High School football team defeated Hartford on Thursday, 58-36, to advance to bi-district competition. They lost Tuesday at South Haven, 46-0, in the first round of the state playoffs.
In the game at Hartford, Kyle Methvin and Houston Svoboda each scored three touchdowns, and Shane Methvin scored two. Three of the eight touchdowns came on pass plays and five on runs.
Centre ended the first half with a lead of 22-14. The Cougars clinched the victory in the third quarter by scoring 29 points and increasing their lead to 51-30. Both teams scored one touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Centre compiled 281 yards rushing and 114 yards passing. Hartford had 199 yards rushing and 106 yards passing.
Kyle Methvin was the leading rusher with 17 carries for 157 yards. Other rushers were Shane Methvin, 12-91; Svoboda 15-28; Kordell Harding, 1-9; and Justin Deines, 1-2.
Kyle Methvin passed for all of Centre’s gains in the air. Svoboda was the leading receiver with three receptions for 83 yards. Harding had two receptions for 11 yards, and Deines had one for 20.
