Cougars 2-1 in district play

The Centre Cougars fell to 2-1 in district play Friday after losing to Chase on the road, 54-12.

The Cougars held their own in the first quarter. They trailed 6-7 at the end of the quarter after quarterback Dakota Stimpson ran 15 yards for a touchdown.

Chase then scored five unanswered touchdowns and 10 conversion points in the second and third quarters to take a 46-6 lead.

Centre’s final touchdown came in the fourth quarter, when Cole Methvin ran for 15 yards and a score. Chase scored one more touchdown and two extra points to win by 42 points.

Centre averaged 3.6 yards a carry, with 59 carries for 212 yards. Chase had just 36 carries but averaged 9.3 yards a carry, for 336 yards.

Stimpson was the leading rusher, with 29 carries for 109 yards. Methvin had 14 carries for 42 yards; Max Svoboda, 9 carries for 33 yards; and Conner Montgomery, 7 carries for 18 yards.

Dylan Deines was the leading receiver with 6 catches for 57 yards. Stimpson had one interception.

Stimpson, Brendon Bina, and Justin Bina were the leading tacklers.

Centre will play Wilson Friday in the last home game of the season.
