A 42-0 victory over Hartford Friday on the road gave the Centre Cougars a 3-1 record in district play.
Quarterback Kyle Methvin scored four running touchdowns. Justin Bina caught a 32-yard pass from Methvin, and Chad Mueller had a 66-yard fumble recovery return, for the other two touchdowns.
Terren Thompson scored two points on a conversion pass from Dakota Stimpson, and Bina added two on a pass from Methvin.
Centre compiled 211 yards rushing on 41 carries. Methvin had 15 carries for 121 yards, Stimpson 12 for 54, Conner Montgomery 12 for 31, and Nick Salamone 2 for 5.
Methvin threw three completed passes for 45 yards. Bina caught a 32-yard pass, Stimpson an 8, and Thompson a 5. Tanner Peterson had an interception for a 15-yard gain.
Friday is parents’ night at Bud Peterson Field as the Cougars take on the Flint Hills Mustangs of Rosalia in another district game. The final district game will be the following Friday at Madison, the top-ranked team in 8-man Division I.
Junior high
In their last game of the season, the junior high Cougars defeated Peabody-Burns Thursday at home, 52-6. The game ended at halftime, after Peabody-Burns returned a Centre kickoff for six points.
In the first quarter, Max Svoboda scored touchdowns on a 25-yard pass and an 8-yard pass from Zach Barney. Svoboda intercepted the ball in the second quarter and returned it 44 yards for his third touchdown.
Josh Mercer scored first in the second quarter with a 43-yard yard run. Barney scored on a 16-yard quarterback keeper. Xavier Espinoza intercepted the ball on Peabody’s next possession and ran 32 yards for Centre’s seventh and final touchdown at 2:02 in the second quarter.
The Cougars ended the season with a record of 3-3.
