CENTRE:   Cougars seek to rebuild

Staff writer

Despite having lost eight players to graduation in the spring, the Centre boys’ basketball team is determined to have a successful season.

“We have 17 boys out for basketball, with 13 of those being freshmen and sophomores,” coach Greg Wyatt said. “We will be young and inexperienced, but the boys are eager to work hard and improve each and every day.”

The 2013 team finished with an overall record of 12-10.

Dakota Stimpson, a 5-foot, 9-inch senior guard, is the only returning starter. Other returning letterwinners are Jared Barney, a 6-0 senior forward; Justin Bina, a 5-10 senior forward; and Nathaniel Engler, a 5-10 junior guard and forward.

Other members of the team include Austin Peterson, Daniel Rudolph, Brendon Bina, Dylan Deines, Cole Methvin, James Spohn, Max Svoboda, Tanner Peterson, C.J. Thompson, Cole Srajer, Zach Barney, Brice Brunner, and Cody Svoboda.

Wyatt expects some of the five sophomores and eight freshmen to contribute to the varsity.

He foresees Wakefield, Solomon, and Little River to be the top teams in the Wheat State League.

The first game is Dec. 5 at Centre against Central Christian of Hutchinson.
