Cougars win
action-packed game

There was no end to exciting plays Friday at Bud Peterson Field as the Centre Cougars defeated Valley Falls, 80-46.

Coach Matt Warta said every one of his 19 players saw some action.

Centre scored 11 of 18 touchdowns, three in each quarter except the third, in which they scored two touchdowns.

Xavier Espinoza scored 5 touchdowns on passes from quarterback Dylan Deines. Deines had 4 touchdowns, including a 65-yard kickoff return in the third quarter. Max Svoboda ran in for 2 scores. Cole Methvin, Cody Svoboda, Espinoza, and Deines made extra points.

Valley Falls scored first, but Centre followed with three touchdowns and conversions to lead 24-6 after one quarter.

The second quarter was almost a carbon copy of the first except for an additional touchdown by Valley Falls. The halftime score was 48-20.

Centre outscored Valley Falls 32-26 in the second half to win by 34 points.

Max Svoboda rushed for 79 of Centre’s 233 yards on the ground. Deines had 7 carries for 57 yards, and Jensen Riffel had 14 carries for 43 yards.

Deines threw 7 completed passes for 195 yards. He also threw 2 interceptions. Espinoza, Deines, and Max Svoboda intercepted passes.

Deines and Methvin were leading tacklers.

The Cougars are 2-3 in district play. Their final game of the season will be 6 p.m. Thursday at White City against Rural Vista.
