Country club hosts tournament

Marion Country Club hosted the 26th annual Couples’ Invitational Tournament Sunday with 36 teams from all across the state competing.

In the championship flight, El Dorado’s Jason Huey and Diana Kohls finished first with a 70, tying runner-up Bernie Waner of Marion and Overland Park’s Kristin Waner.

Marysville’s Alan Wassenberg and Sue Steffen were third with a 72.

El Dorado’s Joe and Laura Jack topped Wichita’s Jim and Chris McNiece and Concordia’s Dick and Cathie Switzer, all finishing with scores of 78 in the first flight.

The second flight saw Roger and Marcy Cannon of Hutchinson finishing first.

Second place went to Marion’s Jerry and Lois Smith and Steve and Terri Wittrig of Wichita finished third, all with identical 81 scores.

In the third flight, Wichita’s James and Terrie Ramsey’s 87 paced the field with Hutchinson’s George and Jan Brauer and Andover’s Ralph and Sue Vautravers shooting an identical 88 for second and third.

Skill prizes went to Waner for closest to pin on hole 9 with a shot of 28 ½ feet and Steffen registering the longest putt on the sixth hole at 27 ½ feet.
