Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the office of emergency management began using a new communications service that allows information to be sent to residents via text messages or e-mail.
Residents must subscribe to the Nixie Community Information Service to get the notifications at http://www.marioncoks.net/.
Messages include notice of impending severe weather, natural disasters, evacuations, recommended safety actions, or other public safety information alerts. People can indicate what type of notices they wish to receive. The resident can discontinue messages at any time.
