County offers to help promote Tampa events

Contributing writer

The county is eager to help publicize and plan activities in smaller communities, development director Teresa Huffman told the Tampa City Council June 1.

Mayor Jim Clemmer said he would like to see more publicity about the springs site on the Santa Fe Trail. A trail marker will be moved closer to the site, and a time capsule at the springs monument will be opened.

In other business, Clemmer and grant coordinator Rose Mary Saunders will look into applying for a grant for sewer improvements.

The council voted to clear out a sewer lift station and generally agreed on spraying the town for mosquitoes.

Council member Paul Backhus volunteered to talk to Agri-Producers about its request to open Fourth Street as a two-lane road.

The council also decided to confer with members of local baseball teams to see what could be done about balls batted out of the town ballpark.

Council member Don Zaiderman said the balls were hitting his house.
