County to buy grader

Staff writer

On a day with little action, the longest item of discussion Monday for county commissioners dealt with buying a new grader for the road department.

With the trade-in of a 1995 grader in the department and a $35,100 six-month rental price, the total purchase price would be $106,760 in 2015. The grader would be used to run the county’s shoulder machine.

“Taking another machine is the right thing to do,” Commissioner Randy Dallke said.

Commissioners had no objections, saying they would check to make sure the purchase was secure before taking action.

In other business:

  • Auctioneer Lyle Leppke showed commissioners examples of flyers for the auction of the former Holiday Motel in Florence at 7 p.m. July 8. Bidding will start at $5,000, but the commission may lower the price.
  • Department on Aging Director Gayla Ratzlaff said she was in the process of gathering bids for new computers after her eight-year-old machines did not improve with system updates.
