County to spend $17,000 on medical record storage

Staff writer

Marion County will spend $17,000, up to $10,000 of which will be reimbursed, for a new system to store medical records for the health department.

Commissioners approved the system, which also will have a $6,000 annual cost, Monday.

The system will unify record keeping, handle billing and may save staff time that can be diverted into home visits, department administrator Diedre Serene said.

The department has provided $64,766 in medical treatments so far this year. It sees 15 to 20 people per week, and provides roughly 750 flu shots annually, Serene said.

Serene also reminded commissioners about the Marion County summer safety event 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the County lake hall.

Cinnamon rolls and biscuits with gravy will be served from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m.

The event will present information on various topics to help promote safe summer activities for all ages.
