County wants to share cost of bridge

Staff writer

Marion and Chase County commissions discussed bud did not make a decision about replacing a county line bridge on Clover Road north of U.S.-50.

Chase County expects traffic on the road to decrease because of another dilapidated bridge.

Replacement would cost about $512,000, but the state would pay about $368,000.

Clerk Carol Maggard suggested Marion County paying 61 percent, or $87,000, of the difference.

In other business:

  • Extension agent Ricky Roberts presented the department’s 2010 budget request of $123,000, a 2.38 percent reduction. Wages and salaries will be frozen.
  • Marion County Park and Lake was busy Memorial Day weekend, director Steve Hudson said. Visitors bought 37 camping permits with electric hook-ups, 83 tent camping permits, and 51 boat permits. Staff conducted 216 zebra mussel checks.
  • Hudson met with commissioners in closed session for five minutes to discuss personnel.
  • Florey Roofing and Construction of Halstead tentatively was selected to replace shingles on damaged roofs at county property at the lake. It bid $5,600. Other bids exceeded $10,000.
