Courthouse windows to be restored

Staff writer

Windows at the courthouse will be refurbished, but likely not before November.

Marion County Commissioners accepted a $679,503 bid from Re-View, based in Kansas City, to restore damaged windows and make all windows operable.

Repairing existing instead of replacing windows — as earlier contemplated — qualifies the county to get tax credits equal to 25 percent of the cost and avoids potential problems with altering the structure of the building in violation of standards that put it on state and federal registries of historic buildings.

Commissioners are still exploring where to find money needed to begin the work. In October, the county will apply for grants to help defray cost.

Commissioner Lori Lalouette was absent at the time of the vote.
