Curbside recycling pickup in Marion, Hillsboro, and Florence will have to wait, but Marion County may put roll-off recycling trailers at Centre High School, Durham, and Florence.

A committee of government officials and concerned residents met Tuesday night to discuss possibilities for a county recycling program.

The committee briefly discussed closing the transfer station to trash at certain times to allow city trash trucks to bring recycling, but Marion, Hillsboro, and Florence — the three cities with their own trash trucks — have very different pickup schedules.

County commissioner Dan Holub said a new transfer station is definitely on the table in the future. The current facility is paid off, but it is deteriorating. If a new transfer station was built, it could include separate bays for trash, recycling, and construction and demolition waste.
