Dale L. Carlson

Dale L. “Swede” Carlson, 86, of Herington died Oct. 2 in McPherson. He was born March 3, 1926, at Herington to Fred A. and Jennie M. (Peterson) Carlson.

The funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, with the Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating. Burial followed with military honors at the Lost Springs Cemetery.

Carlson was a part owner and operator with Frank Jones’ Oil Company in McPherson for many years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville.
Carlson grew up in Lost Springs and graduated from Lost Springs High School with the class of 1944. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater of action during World War II as a seaman first class, serving on the USS O’Neil and the USS Rigel.

He married Delores E. Miltz Sept. 19, 1949, in Topeka. She preceded him in death Nov. 29, 1996. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald Craig Carlson, and his two brothers, Walt Carlson and Harold Carlson.

Survivors are four sons: Kenneth Carlson and Michael Carlson, both of Hillsboro, and Robert Carlson and Kevin Carlson, both of McPherson; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established for St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville.
