David Crofoot

A celebration of life reception for David Freeman Crofoot, 77, Marion, will be 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Marion Community Center ballroom, with a service at 2 p.m.

Surrounded by his family Dave passed away July 10, 2026, at St. Luke Hospital. He was an owner and operator of Western Associates and current Marion County commissioner.

Dave was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Wichita, eldest child born of John and Marian (Hurst) Crofoot. They lived in the Cedar Point area, and soon he would welcome siblings, Pam and Jim. 

He attended Cedar Point Elementary School, then Florence Junior High and Florence High School, graduating with the class of 1967.

He attended Kansas State University and proudly served in U.S. Navy, stationed in the Philippines.

On Sept. 2, 1983, Dave was united in marriage to Jackie Fender.

Dave was an active member of the John McKay American Legion Post 308, the Kansas Livestock Association, the Kansas Republican Party, the Kansas Motorcycle Sportsman’s Association, the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas, the Sprockets Motorcycle Club, and the Flint Hills Bent Rims and served for 22 years on the Chingawassa committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marian Crofoot. 

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Jackie Crofoot of Marion; his children: Brian (and wife Kodi) Crofoot of Marion, Erin (and husband Eldon) Chance of Andover, and Shelly (and husband Mike) Padgett of Wichita; siblings: Pam (and husband Les) Byer of Marion and Jim (and wife Joni) Crofoot of Marion; grandchildren: Alex (and husband Chase) Lookingbill of Canyon, Texas; Camden Padgett of Wichita; and Conner Padgett of Wichita; and adopted grandson Dylan Cooper of Marion.

Memorials have been established with Leadership Marion County, St. Luke Hospital, and Caring Hands Humane Society in care of Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
