Developer can opt out of county development group
Managing editor
Marion Economic Development Director Doug Kjellin no longer has to be a member of Marion County Economic Development Council.
Marion City Council met in closed session Monday evening to discuss Kjellin’s request to have the city job description changed so he no longer would be required to attend.
When the council returned to open session following a 30-minute executive session, it was decided the economic development director’s job description will be changed to give the director discretion as to whether or not he or she wants to participate.
Other city representatives had resigned after disputes with the county development council regarding changes in bylaws and overall direction of the volunteer group.
The council did not discuss any other action regarding the appointments of representatives to serve on the council.
Building commission consideration
The council asked City Attorney Dan Baldwin for his opinion regarding a city building commission. Information had been submitted to the council for review, including a charter ordinance to create a commission.
Baldwin explained that there was no reason at the present time for the council to create a board, but if development should occur that would require it, then the council would be ready.
The City of Hillsboro has a building commission, which is composed of council members.
The Marion council is considering the building commission for when the city may be requested to issue revenue bonds.
