Donald Parrish

Donald E. Parrish, 83, died May 20 at Schowalter Progressive Recovery Academy.

A funeral service was Monday at Schowalter Villa Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Burns City Cemetery.

Born Aug. 9, 1932, in Hutchinson, he grew up in Denver and joined the army in 1953, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955.

He spent most of his time helping his uncle and aunt, Jesse and Flora Morgan, on their farm east of Burns.

On Dec. 26, 1953, he married Laverna Puckett in Engelwood, Colorado. They lived on the same farm he helped on near Burns until retiring to Schowalter Villa in 2010.

Survivors include his wife, Laverna; children, David Parrish of Wichita; Timothy Parrish of Moundridge; Kathryn Hoelscher of Newton; and James Parrish of Fayetteville, Arkansas; sisters Patricia Hugley and Carol McClure; brother Carl Parrish; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Schowalter Villa Chaplains Fund.
