Donald Dean Winter, 71, of Ness City, died Oct. 21 at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

Born Dec. 12, 1937, in Marion to Ferd and Helen (Hein) Winter, he graduated from Marion High School in 1956.

He was married Jan. 20, 1957, to Judith Faye Cogdill in Marion and worked as an oilfield pumper.

Winter volunteered for many activities including Boy Scouts and little league baseball.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth.

Survivors include his wife, Judith; three sons, Dick, Randy, and Shawn of Ness City; two daughters, Traci Maier of Lakewood, Colo., and Kim Melichar of Andale; three sisters, Beatrice Kelsey, Virginia Heerey, and Marjorie Sandwell of Marion; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Ness City, with the Rev. Vernon Bowers presiding. Burial was in the Ness City Cemetery.
