Doris N. Floyd

Doris N. Floyd, 84, of Herington died Dec. 12, 2011, at Herington Municipal Hospital.

She was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Herington to Robert H. and Helen C. (McRae) Herpich. She was a member of First Christian Church, Herington, and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She graduated from Herington High School in 1946 and received her teaching certificate from Emporia Normal School. She taught in one-room schools in Morris County. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Domestic Science Club.

She married Wolter E. Floyd on May 27, 1950, at First Christian Church, Herington. He survives of the home. She is also survived by two sons, Gary Floyd and Lee Floyd, both of Herington; a daughter, Susan Lehr of Herington; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Don Herpich; a sister, Leona Herpich; and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Herington, with the Rev. Shawn Baird officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the service begins at the church. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, is assisting with services.
