Duane Brunner

Duane R. Brunner, 74, Herington, died Sept. 17 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

Born June 19, 1935, in rural Herington to Henry F. and Mollie (Schneider) Brunner, he was married Aug. 28, 1958, to Helen Betty Jean Evans at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington.

He served six years with the Army and Reserves as a Specialist 5th Class until Feb. 20, 1963, and was a retired machinist for Beach Aircraft Company.

An active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, he was confirmed in May 1949, and was a longtime caretaker of the church and grounds.

His wife, Helen; two brothers, Elmer and Maynard; four sisters, Bernita Hickey, Frieda Wendlandt, Edith Osborn, and Lorene Walker; and his parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Ron of Abilene; three sisters, Norma Olson of Herington, Donna Ewing of Pratt, and Leona Wendlandt of Wichita; and four grandchildren.

Services were Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington, with the Rev. Bill Peterson officiating. Burial was at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the church, and may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S Broadway, Herington KS 67449-3038.
