Duane Schierling

Livestock nutritionist Duane Schierling, 55, died Thursday in Hillsboro.

Born Feb. 6, 1954, in Hutchinson, he married Jill Westbrook on Feb. 23, 1980, in Quinter.

She survives along with his mother, Nuna Lee Patzel of Hillsboro; son, Ryan, of Hillsboro; daughters, Megan Hein of Hillsboro and Melissa Enns of Lehigh; and three grandchildren.

His father, Raymond Schierling, died in 1960. His sister, Janice Reno, died in 1990.

Services were Tuesday at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church, rural Hillsboro. Burial was in Gnadenau Cemetery, two miles south of Hillsboro. The Rev. Gaylord Goertzen officiated.

Memorial funds have been established with the church and the American Cancer Society.

Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro, was in charge of arrangements.
