The 69th annual meeting of the Marion County Conservation District will be held 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion.
Rex Buchanan, interim director of Kansas Geological Survey, will give a presentation about earthquakes in Kansas.
Buchanan has been with KGS since 1978 and has written several books about Kansas geological features. He is secretary for the Association of American State Geologists.
Buchanan chairs the Kansas task force on induced seismicity. He has been quoted as saying that disposal of wastewater from oil fracking operations has contributed to the multiplication of earthquakes in southern Kansas the past two years.
A meal will be served before the meeting commences. Guests must register for the event in advance, with a $2.50 per person fee due byThursday.
