Edna May Janzen, 83, formerly of Scott City, passed away Oct. 20, 2012, at her residence. She was born July 14, 1929, near Marion, the daughter of Henry and Margaret Friesen Winter.

She was a graduate of Marion High School. On July 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Norman L. Janzen. They were longtime residents of Scott City, where she served as Scott County Treasurer, being appointed by the governor in 1976 and elected in 1977.

She was a lifetime member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. In 1971 and 1974, she was chosen Outstanding Girl in her chapter. In 1971, she was chosen as Outstanding Girl for her district. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for 36 years. She had an eye for detail and was a talented seamstress.

In 1980, the couple relocated to Andover. She worked for Koch Industries in accounts payable until retirement, completing 17.5 years of service to them.

Her husband Norman passed away Aug. 10, 1999. They shared 48 years together. She was also preceded by her parents and her siblings, Virgil Winter and Anna Belle Koons.

She is survived by her son, Terry Janzen of Andover; her daughter, Norma Hovater of Andover; a sister, Betty Reiswig of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Jasen Hovater and Jeff Hovater, both of Andover.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude’s Children’s Research in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS 66861.
