Election Day event features historic military and political items

Staff writer

Displays of early political, military, POW, and veteran items will available for viewing on Election Day in the basement of Peabody United Methodist Church.

Peabody Historical Society will have the displays available from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“We have begun to re-evaluate some of the items that have been stored away in museum cupboards,” board member Carmen South said. “Plus we have new items that were donated recently by the Christ family and Bill and Charles Jacobs. We are trying to make some of these artifacts more accessible while we itemize and catalog them.”

Historical society members also will be serving cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning followed by homemade soups, chili dogs, and pies from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the church basement. There will be a charge for the food, but not for people wishing to just view the displays.

“After everyone votes at the high school, we’d love to have them come in, get something to eat, and look over the displays while they reminisce about past military and political events,” South said. “There is plenty of room to sit and visit, and we plan to have plenty of food.”

Takeout meals will be available by calling South at (316) 648-3687. Takeout meal customers can pick up their meals or have them delivered.
