Elfrieda Pagenkopf
Retired Tampa and Herington postal worker Elfrieda A. Pagenkopf, 88, died Monday at Herington Municipal Hospital.
Services were to be at 11 a.m. today at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington. Burial was to follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
An active member of the church, she served in several capacities, including leading the Tabitha Circle funeral committee.
Before retiring in 1988 as a clerk in the Herington post office, she was a letter carrier and for two years was temporary postmaster in Tampa.
Born March 18, 1921, at Kensington to Henry W. and Maria W. (Seemann) Rahjes, she graduated from Agra High School and taught from 1942 to ’46 at St. Paul’s Parochial School, Herington.
She married Melvin A. Pagenkopf on June 9, 1946, at Kensington. He died Dec. 29, 1988. Sisters Margaret Kendall and Clara King also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sisters Doris Long of Emporia and Lora Dettmer of Agra, daughter Deborah Reever of Wichita, and a granddaughter.
