Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 9

2 p.m. — A brush fire sparked from a controlled burn the previous day was extinguished by Burns firefighters.

Jan. 10

5:20 a.m. — A vehicle accident on Meridian Rd. originally reported to be between 150th and 170th Rds., then 170th and US-56, was determined on a callback from the reporting party to be between 180th and 190th Rds. Goessel first responders and Hillsboro ambulance were called, and had difficulties communicating by radio. A helicopter was requested, but none was available. One person was transported by Hillsboro ambulance to Via Christi – St. Francis in Wichita.

8:12 a.m. — A man in his 60s with breathing difficulties in the 300 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was taken by Marion ambulance to Newton Medical Center. Peabody first responders assisted.

10:59 a.m. — A barn fire near 30th and Nighthawk Rds. was extinguished by Peabody firefighters.

1:04 p.m. — A man in his 50s with upper respiratory problems at Salem Home was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital.

7:20 p.m. — A dispatcher directed Marion ambulance to respond to St. Luke Hospital “for assistance,” but provided no additional information. A Lifeteam helicopter landed at the hospital at 8:08 p.m. and flew a patient to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

4:58 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis by Marion ambulance.

9:53 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Larned by Marion ambulance.

friday

9:06 a.m. — A woman in her 60s with breathing difficulties who was feeling ill on Vista Rd. between 40th and 50th Rds. was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis by Peabody ambulance. Burns first responders assisted.

9:42 a.m. — A gas leak caused by a car striking a meter at 2nd and Adams Sts. in Hillsboro prompted a response by Hillsboro firefighters.

1:00 p.m. — Marion ambulance reported a patient refused transportation. The initial dispatch and prior transmissions were not recorded by the newspaper’s system.

5:36 p.m. — A student at Marion Middle School gym who was passing in and out of consciousness and described by paramedics as “code red,” indicating a serious and possibly life-threatening condition, was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke. EMS director Ed Debesis also responded to the call. No additional calls were recorded until 9:39 p.m. when Marion ambulance radioed, “You can show us finished with that first call and show us on a second call, a transfer from St. Luke to Wesley (Medical Center).” It was not indicated whether the patient was the student or a different patient.

8:07 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley Medical Center.

11:53 p.m. — A male with breathing difficulties in the 100 block of S. Date St. was assessed by Hillsboro ambulance personnel as “code red” and helicopter transport was requested. Hillsboro firefighters were dispatched to create a landing zone, but were called back when ambulance personnel requested the helicopter land at HCH. Lifeteam took the patient to Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

6:10 a.m. — A woman who fell in the 1500 block of E. Main St. was assisted by Marion ambulance. She was not taken to a hospital.

saturday

2:35 p.m. — A man in his 80s who was released Thursday from a hospital and was believed to be having adverse reactions to medication was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from the 700 block of S. Lincoln St. to HCH.

5:04 p.m. — A man in his 80s who fell when his knees buckled while lifting in the 2100 block of Strassburg St. at Eastshore was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke.

6:25 p.m. — A Lifeteam helicopter reported landing at HCH and departing at 7:12 p.m. No patient information or destination could be determined from transmissions.

9:59 p.m. — Durham firefighters were dispatched for a tractor fire on Goldenrod Rd. between 290th and 300th Rds. At 10:07 p.m. a transmission from a Durham fire radio said, “I suppose you got a page for coming out here?” The individual indicated the fire was out but requested assistance with putting out hot spots.

sunday

8:36 a.m. — A series of four transmissions from Burns firefighter radios indicated one person was going to check the scene of a possible fire, while two others were en route to the station and scene. No dispatch or other transmission were recorded.

10:37 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters and ambulance responded to a fire alarm in the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. It was determined the fire alarm had malfunctioned.

11:54 p.m. — A man with a possible broken hip in the 400 block of N. Locust St. was taken by Peabody ambulance to Newton Medical Center.

monday

12:12 a.m. — A man with breathing difficulties at Bethesda Homes was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Medical Center.

9:32 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center.

4:41 p.m. — A two-vehicle accident at 150th and Diamond Rds. drew response from Goessel firefighters and first responders and Hillsboro ambulance. Two people involved in the accident reported no injuries, and no one was taken to a hospital.

11:02 p.m. — A woman experiencing back pain after her vehicle slid into a ditch on Goldenrod Rd. just south of US-56 was examined by Hillsboro ambulance personnel. She was not taken to a hospital. Hillsboro firefighters also responded.
