Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

april 10

11:50 a.m. — Peabody firefighters assisted Walton crews for about an hour with a controlled burn that was out of control at N.E. 72nd and N. East Lake Rds. in Harvey County.

2:04 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were called back to Harvey County after the previous fire rekindled. All units were back at the station shortly after 3 p.m.

2:35 p.m. — Tampa firefighters assisted with a grass fire at 300th Ave. and Jeep Rd. in Dickinson County. All units were back at the station at 6:37 p.m.

4:36 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

April 11

9:56 a.m. — Peabody ambulance responded to the 200 block of E. Central St. for a possible death. No call requesting a coroner was recorded, but transmissions indicated Baker Funeral Home had been contacted and had someone en route.

11:18 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance responded to Hillsboro Community Hospital for a patient transfer to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. The ambulance was released from the hospital, then returned at 1:47 p.m. to initiate the transport to Kansas City.

11:29 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

11:45 a.m. — Durham firefighters and first responders and Hillsboro ambulance were dispatched to a car vs. deer accident on K-15 approximately 1½ miles south of Durham. Hillsboro ambulance contacted dispatch to advise them that they were engaged with the possible transport to Kansas City and that Tampa ambulance should be paged. At 12 p.m., deputy Derrick Fetrow radioed from the scene that no emergency responders were needed, and the response was terminated.

12:14 p.m. — A fire alarm in the 100 block of N. Birch St. was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a false alarm.

3:16 p.m. — A Burns firefighter reported they were investigating a plume of smoke believed possibly to be from a previous wildfire. No dispatch was recorded, and no additional related transmissions were recorded after 3:34 p.m.

3:46 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were paged for a fire alarm at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. At 3:47 p.m. a Goessel firefighter reported that someone at the church reported they had just burned something in the kitchen, and the response was canceled.

5:35 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters responded to US-56 between K-15 and Goldenrod Rd. for a brush pile fire. All units were reported back at the station at 7:08 p.m.

8:17 p.m. — A woman in her 90s at Parkside Homes who was described as unresponsive was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

thursday

8:05 a.m. — A woman was reported to be on the ground but breathing in the 100 block of N. Walnut St. Peabody ambulance was dispatched, and Marion ambulance also responded. At 8:36 a.m., Peabody ambulance reported it was en route to Newton Medical Center. Marion ambulance reported it was following Peabody ambulance to Newton.

9:12 a.m. — A man in his 60s was reported to be weak and confused after falling twice Peabody Health and Rehab. En route back from Newton, Marion ambulance was initially directed to take the call, but Peabody ambulance was finished with the prior call and took it over. The man was taken to a hospital, believed to be Newton Medical Center, although incomplete recordings of transmissions were inconclusive.

9:43 a.m. — Marion ambulance was paged for a call, the details of which could not be determined due to garbled transmissions, but was dismissed at 9:45 a.m. when dispatchers reported the individual was being taken to a hospital by personal vehicle.

4:11 p.m. — Goessel, Peabody, and Hillsboro firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance were dispatched to the 100 block of S. Church St. for a grease fire in a house. Goessel firefighters reported at 4:19 p.m. that the fire was out, and Peabody and Hillsboro responses were terminated.

10:09 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital in Wichita by Hillsboro ambulance.

friday

7:47 a.m. — Marion firefighters responded to Casey’s General Store for a large gas spill.

12:07 p.m. — A woman who complained of dizziness at a Tabor College duplex was examined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. The woman refused to be taken to a hospital.

4:04 p.m. — Burns firefighters reported they were en route to K-254 and SW Shumway Rd. in Butler County, but were told to disregard at 4:13 p.m. The nature of the call could not be determined from recorded transmissions.

5:07 p.m. — A resident at Salem Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:18 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

saturday

7:47 a.m. — A resident at Westview Manor was taken to Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance.

8:07 a.m. — Tampa firefighters and ambulance responded to K-15 and 330th Rd. for a rollover accident in which a vehicle was on its top in a ditch. One individual was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance

8:30 a.m. — A woman in her 70s was not feeling well in the 300 block of Lincoln St. in Tampa. A Marion ambulance EMT as first responder was first on scene. The woman was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:52 a.m. — A medical alarm for a possible fall at Salem Home was determined by Hillsboro ambulance personnel to be false.

11:29 a.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Salina Regional Health Center by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:05 p.m. — A woman in her 80s who fell in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. was assisted by Marion ambulance personnel. The woman was not taken to a hospital.

sunday

6:24 a.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:54 a.m. — A man in his 90s who felt weak and had a swollen leg was taken from the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:30 a.m. — A fire alarm at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church was determined by Goessel firefighters to have been caused by a faulty fire sensor.

5:36 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

monday

1:41 a.m. — A woman who believed she may be having a stroke was taken from the 500 block of N. Lincoln St. to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:04 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

12:28 p.m. — Florence firefighters responded to a pasture fire that was out of control and burning into a neighboring field at 130th and Upland Rds., surrounding an abandoned quarry. At 12:38 p.m., Marion firefighters were dispatched to assist. All units were released from the scene at 1:38 p.m.

2:12 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Salina Regional Health Center by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:42 p.m. — A woman in her 70s who was feeling ill after giving blood in the 200 block of S. Elm St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

3:45 p.m. — Florence firefighters were recalled to 130th and Upland Rds. for a flare-up of a fire earlier in the day. At 4:03 p.m., Marion firefighters again were paged to assist. Firefighters worked to extinguish burning pastureland, and also a large brush pile fire in a section of the quarry that was generating thick black smoke plumes. All units were released from the scene at 7 p.m.

3:54 p.m. — Burns firefighters reported they were engaged with a fire at N.W. 40th and Haverhill Rds. in Butler County. Firefighters were clear of the scene and returning to Burns at 7 p.m.

5:30 p.m. — A one-vehicle injury accident approximately two miles south of Lincolnville drew response from Lincolnville firefighters and first responders and Marion and Tampa ambulances. At 5:32 p.m., a Marion firefighter radioed dispatchers to ask if they needed Marion’s rescue unit to respond, and dispatchers subsequently paged them out. A Lost Springs firefighter radioed that he was on scene and neither of two people in the car were entrapped. One patient was airlifted by Lifeteam helicopter to Wesley Medical Center. A second patient was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance.

6:16 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters, ambulance, and rescue unit responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident at 190th and Falcon Rds. An individual at the scene refused to be taken to a hospital.

7:27 p.m. — Peabody firefighters assisted Harvey County firefighters with a grass fire at 72nd and Harvest Hill Rds. All units were reported back at the station by 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
