Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 23

2:46 p.m. — A 36-year-old woman who injured her knee in a fell in the 200 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. Without monitored explanation, ambulance attendants asked sheriff’s deputies to meet them at the hospital. A lone ambulance attendant from Florence assisted as a first responder.

JUNE 24

11:40 a.m. — A medical alarm accidentally was activated at Indian Guide Terrace in Peabody. Attendants were told to disregard the call before Peabody ambulance arrived.

2:51 p.m. — A 40-year-old woman who suffered a seizure, lost consciousness, and became anxious and short of breath in the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Assisting were the county ambulance director and, on his instructions, Marion ambulance, which initially had been told to disregard the call.

5:04 p.m. — A patient at Salem Home, Hillsboro, declined to be transported by Hillsboro ambulance after the ambulance was summoned in response to a medical alarm.

9:50 p.m. — A 92-year-old woman who activated a medical alarm at Salem Home declined to the taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

THURSDAY

1:40 a.m. — A 63-old-man with an empty inhaler who was having trouble breathing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from a mobile home in the 300 block of W. 3rd St. in Hillsboro.

1:41 a.m. — A man complaining of chest pains in the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence was taken Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance. Law enforcement officers already on the scene requested the ambulance. Florence ambulance also was dispatched but did not respond.

10:38 a.m. — A woman who briefly lost consciousness, fell, and may have broken her foot while moving from one vehicle to another near 8th and Vine Sts. In Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance. A sheriff’s deputy who had been serving legal documents requested the ambulance.

11:02 a.m. — A 13-year-old bicyclist was killed when he was run over by semi-trailer truck at Ash and D Sts. in Hillsboro.

Hillsboro ambulance, the county ambulance director, and a coroner were called.

Hillsboro firefighters, Hillsboro police, Goessel police, a fish and game warden, and sheriff’s deputies limited access to the scene and directed traffic for nearly four hours. Kansas Highway Patrol was called to lead the investigation.

1:45 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was taken home to Pilsen by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to its station at 3:10 p.m.

5:40 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance.

6:06 p.m. — A 38-year-old woman too weak to get up was taken by Florence ambulance to St. Francis from the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence.

FRIDAY

12:02 p.m. — A 47-year-old woman, described as possibly dehydrated and with “other issues” at a farm near 180th and Old Mill Rds., was checked by Marion ambulance at the request of a sheriff’s deputy. She declined to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, but the deputy appeared to drive her there after the ambulance left.

12:23 p.m. — What was described as a rollover accident nearby, at 190th and Nighthawk Rds., resulted in calls to Hillsboro ambulance, Marion firefighters, Hillsboro rescue squad, and, after it was finished with the previous call, Marion ambulance. All four people potentially involved in the accident declined to be taken to a hospital. Among law enforcement officers responding was the deputy who had gone to St. Luke.

12:45 p.m. — Another accident, this one reportedly involving a car and a semi-trailer truck nearby at US-56 and Pawnee Rd., resulted in the reassignment of Hillsboro ambulance and additional response from Marion rescue squad, which ended up not being needed. The deputy who went to St. Luke also relocated there along with Marion ambulance, two other deputies at the scene of the first accident, two Marion police officers, and eventually a highway patrol trooper. Three people involved in the accident all declined to be taken to a hospital. Firefighters helped direct traffic for more than an hour.

3:54 p.m. — With no medical first responders available, a Goessel firefighter assisted with a McPherson County call about a 62-year-old woman in pain near 29th Ave. and Cherokee Rd. She was taken to Mercy Hospital, Moundridge, by a Moundridge ambulance.

7:22 p.m. — A motorist who was driving erratically on K-15 south of US-56 pulled over and asked a passing motorist to call for an ambulance without specifying a reason. Hillsboro ambulance responded but did not transport a patient. Sheriff’s deputies indicated the driver may have been intoxicated. Transmissions indicate a deputy remained on the scene for nearly three hours until a ride for the driver could be arranged.

SATURDAY

2:30 a.m. — A 67-year-old woman with a fever and difficulty breathing was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis.

10:58 p.m. — An 81-year-old man with chest pains was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

SUNDAY

1:44 a.m. — After initially refusing to call for an ambulance and asking for a police officer to help instead after a fall, a Hilltop Manor resident was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

10:33 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman with chest pains and occasional loss of consciousness was taken from a farmhouse near 20th and Yarrow Rds. to Newton Med by Marion ambulance. First responders from Burns and a lone attendant in Florence ambulance also answered the call.

11:13 p.m. — Marion ambulance completed an unspecified assignment thought to have involved standing by during a police standoff in Marion.

MONDAY

9:36 a.m. — A woman was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance after her grandson walked to the hospital from the 400 block of S. Coble St. and complained that his grandmother was crying.

11:23 a.m. — A driver who pulled over on 340th Rd. near Lost Springs because of chest pains, weakness, and trouble breathing was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

The driver had called his wife, who passed a vague location along to dispatchers. A Lost Springs firefighter located the vehicle.

Lincolnville first responders and Tampa ambulance also were paged, but only one EMT from Tampa ambulance was available. The county ambulance director also responded from Marion.

9:14 p.m. — A pedestrian noticed through a window that one of her neighbors in the 100 block of Eisenhower Dr. was lying motionless on the floor of his home. Marion ambulance was called and discovered that the resident had died.
