Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MAY 23

12:24 a.m. — A man who fell and injured his arm outside Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:42 a.m. — A LifeSave helicopter took a patient from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Research Medical Center, Kansas City.

2:21 a.m. — Unattended burning of a brush pile along K-15 north of 220th Rd. was deemed under control within 20 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

8:35 a.m. — A 76-year-old man who suffered a heart attack was transferred by an EagleMed helicopter from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

5:01 p.m. — A 71-year-old with a collapsed lung was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:47 p.m.

7:45 p.m. — A natural gas odor east of US-56/77 and 250th Rd. was determined by Lincolnville firefighters to have been from a natural gas plant’s intentional venting, which posed no danger.

7:46 p.m. —A 46-year-old man with possible nerve damage was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital’s trauma center in Wichita.

MAY 24

12:47 p.m. — A 57-year-old woman with postoperative complications was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:41 p.m.

1:32 p.m. — An unconscious 47-year-old woman who suffered a seizure at a residence on Eastmoor Dr. in Marion was taken by Marion ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:15 p.m.

2:04 p.m. — The county ambulance director, who also responded to the Marion call, ordered Tampa ambulance to stand by in Hillsboro until Hillsboro ambulance returned from McPherson.

2:55 p.m. — Burns firefighters were dispatched to a power pole on fire in Chase County.

6:57 p.m. — Hillsboro and Peabody ambulances were dispatched to help a 70-year-old woman choking on candy at Vine and 9th Sts. in Peabody but quickly were told to disregard the call.

THURSDAY

2:23 p.m. — A 47-year-old woman who suffered multiple seizures at a residence in the 400 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:33 p.m. — A patient and flight crew from a helicopter ambulance forced by maintenance issues to land at HCH were transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley and Jabara Airport. A Hillsboro medic remained in Hillsboro as a first responder until the ambulance returned at 12:20 a.m.

FRIDAY

A power failure in Marion disrupted recording of transmissions from 8:48 until 11:30 a.m.

1:02 p.m. — A 43-year-old woman experiencing pain after gallbladder surgery the day before in Chanute was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the rear of Ramirez Auto Sales, Marion.

4:12 p.m. — A 75-year-old man who fell in the 100 block of N. Adams St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:12 p.m. — A 25-year-old man not responding normally at a residence in the 700 block of Plum St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched, but the call was canceled.

SATURDAY

1 p.m. — An 85-year-old man complaining of dizziness and weakness at Burns fire station was examined by Burns first responders but declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance, preferring instead to go by private vehicle.

10:38 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:03 a.m.

SUNDAY

5:53 a.m. — An 89-year-old man coughing up blood at a Bethesda Homes duplex in the 300 block of Meadow Ln. in Goessel was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:39 a.m.

7:11 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance not yet back in Hillsboro, Marion ambulance and Hillsboro first responders were dispatched to a Main St. Ministries apartment in Hillsboro for a 39-year-old woman who was short of breath and had shooting pain in her arm. She was taken to HCH.

8:58 a.m. — The county’s backup ambulance, most recently filling in for Peabody ambulance, relocated to Florence until 6:32 p.m. to stand by and provide initial care during the Florence Grand Prix motorcycle race.

11:16 a.m. — Marion ambulance rendezvoused with the backup ambulance at US-50 and Main St. in Florence to take a rider with a shoulder injury to St. Luke.

2:39 p.m. — A patient, possibly the rider brought in by Marion ambulance, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 5:42 p.m.

2:44 p.m. — Marion ambulance met the backup ambulance at 50th and Yarrow Rds. to take another injured rider to St. Luke. Tampa ambulance relocated to the Hillsboro ambulance station to stand by in case of additional calls until Hillsboro ambulance returned.

4:53 p.m. — Another rider, this one with a possibly fractured leg, declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

5:20 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a trauma patient from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:54 p.m.

5:54 p.m. — A 93-year-old woman in respiratory distress at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. The patient originally was to be transferred to an out-of-county hospital. Tampa ambulance again was alerted to relocate to Hillsboro to stand by in case of additional calls, but those instructions were rescinded after the patient’s destination was changed to HCH.

MONDAY

5:53 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell, hit her head, was not responding normally, and was still lying on a floor at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC. A Peabody EMT provided initial care.
