Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

AUG. 18

12:06 a.m. — A 59-year-old man with chest pains in the 300 block of N. Pine St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:17 a.m. — A 20-year-old man with an eye injury was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

12:06 p.m. — A smoke alarm at a Tabor College townhouse was attributed, before Hillsboro firefighters, arrived to a resident neglecting to add water before microwaving a cup of noodles.

5:42 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman who tripped on a sidewalk, fell, and hit her head in the 200 block of N. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:10 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were asked to help battle a garage fire on Main St. in Walton, but the call was canceled before they arrived.

9:41 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman needing kidney dialysis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

AUG. 19

2:58 a.m. — A 78-year-old man involved in a car wreck near Salem Home and F St. in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:31 a.m. — Police asked Hillsboro ambulance to check on a person at a home in the 500 block of S. Adams St. in Hillsboro. The ambulance took the unspecified person to NMC Health.

10:46 a.m. — A smoke alarm at a home in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was attributed by Hillsboro firefighters to a spill in an oven.

1:29 p.m. — An uninjured 65-year-old man who fell at a home in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

4:45 p.m. — A smoldering portion of a deck at the rear of a home in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was extinguished within 15 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

6:23 p.m. — An 80-year-old man lying on the ground in the 400 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

6:38 p.m. — A fire that grew out of control in the 400 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was brought back under control within 12 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

10:02 p.m. — An 87-year-old woman with a problem related to her heart was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

THURSDAY

6:16 a.m. — An unresponsive woman at a home in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. in Marion was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance.

5:57 p.m. — A 56-year-old man with a possible blood clot was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

8:38 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman with appendicitis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC Health.

FRIDAY

8:37 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

SATURDAY

8:36 a.m. — An 84-year-old woman complaining of weakness at a home in the 400 block of Elm St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

9:08 a.m. — Fire in three round hay bales southeast of 310th and Nighthawk Rds. was extinguished within 40 minutes by Tampa firefighters.

7:07 p.m. — Ramona and then Lincolnville firefighters were dispatched after Lost Springs firefighters did not respond to repeated pages about an implement hitting a gas meter northeast of 320th and Remington Rds. Firefighters were able to stop the leak after 50 minutes but remained as a precaution until a Kansas Gas Service crew arrived 20 minutes later.

11:31 p.m. — An unresponsive 71-year-old woman who appeared to suffer a seizure at a home in the 500 block of N. Walnut St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

SUNDAY

11:06 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman with an unspecified condition at Salem Home in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

2:17 p.m. — Tampa firefighters stood by for two hours while a brush pile was burned north of town.

2:50 p.m. — A 74-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke at a home in the 200 block of N. Lincolnville Ave. in Lincolnville declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A Lincolnville first responder arrived within 10 minutes and cared for the patient until the ambulance arrived four minutes later.

3:44 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman with a broken hip was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

MONDAY

12:01 a.m. — A 68-year-old woman vomiting in the 500 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:40 a.m. — A person involved in a car-deer accident in which air bags were deployed south of Marion on Sunflower Rd. near 180th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. The ambulance director also responded.

7:58 a.m. — A 74-year-old man not responding normally after possibly suffering a stroke at a home in the 200 block of N. Lincolnville Ave. in Lincolnville was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders also were dispatched.

1:54 p.m. — A backup ambulance based in Hillsboro transferred a patient from Wesley back to Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

3:48 p.m. — A confused elderly man unable to get out of a rolled-over water truck on 290th Rd. between Indigo and Jade Rds. was taken to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance. Tampa ambulance, Durham firefighters, a Durham first responder, and Hillsboro rescue squad also responded.

4:17 p.m. — An 80-year-old man unable to get up off the ground in the 400 block of W. 8th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

5:54 p.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.
