LETTERS:   Employees' training pays off

Employees’ training pays off

To the editor:

With the ice storm this past weekend, I wanted to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to Marion County Emergency Medical Services workers and St. Luke Hospital employees who gave up their evening to assist with multiple accidents that occurred in the area.

With the arrival of numerous patients to the emergency department Saturday evening, calls were made and extra nurses and office assistants responded immediately to help. I am very proud of the nurses who have received extra training in emergency preparedness, trauma, cardiac, and pediatrics. These extra skills were all put to the test this past weekend. They performed with the highest level of professionalism and care. When disasters like this happen, Marion is fortunate to have the high quality of medical care offered by St. Luke Hospital.

As most know, St. Luke Hospital is beginning an extensive renovation to the hospital. Employees have made phenomenal financial contributions to ensure the success of the building project. Seeing the response from staff Saturday evening, I am again reminded of the dedication shown by St. Luke staff.

The Marion community should be proud of the medical network provided. I know I am.

Linda Kannady, RN
Chief Nursing Officer, St. Luke Hospital
