Expired medications to be collected Saturday

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has announced that law enforcement agencies across the state will collect leftover medications Saturday for safe disposal as part of a nationwide effort.

“Unused medications are dangerous for kids, pets, and the environment,” Schmidt said. “Getting these leftover medicines out of the medicine cabinets keeps them from falling into the wrong hands and makes our communities safer.”

Hillsboro Police Department will be accepting unused medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We take about any used or outdated medication but we don’t take needles or epi pens,” Hillsboro police chief Dan Kinning said. “People should dispose of old vitamins at their homes.”

Marion Assistant Chief Clinton Jeffrey said Marion would not be collecting medication.

Peabody Police Department did not respond to inquiries about this subject by press time.
