Family reunion memorializes Samuel Jewett

Forty-five relatives met June 2 at Marion for a family reunion and memorial service for Samuel Leslie Jewett of Lincoln, Nebraska, who died Dec. 17 at age 81.

Jewett was from the Youngtown community and graduated from Marion High School. A memorial service was Dec. 22 in Lincoln, but his wish was that his cremated remains be buried in Grant Cemetery northeast of Marion.

Pastor Morita Truman of Hillsboro United Methodist Church officiated at the service. Masonic Lodge of Florence gave the program, and a color guard from McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, led a flag ceremony and taps.

After the service, everyone gathered at Marion County Lake Hall for a noon meal and to share pictures and stories.

Those in attendance were Jewett’s son, Jeff and Amy Jewett, Kyra and Ian, Lincoln, Nebraska; Jeff’s mother, Nancy Beilke, Fremont, Nebraska; Jessie Jewett Elliott, Madison, Tennessee; Kalisa Ewing, Kingston Springs, Tennessee; Edith and John Darting, Lloyd Spencer, Isaac and Kaleb Spencer, and Shonda Ratzloff, all of Hillsboro; and Theresa Spencer.

Hope Darting, William and Damon Hays, Wichita; Garry Johnson, Sedan; Carol and Dennis Thompson, Wichita Falls, Texas; Clifford and Linda Jewett, Buena Park, California; Ed and Shawna Jewett, Mount Hope; Richard Baxter, Mike and Amanda Baxter and two children, Great Bend.

Larry Baxter, Diana Kennedy, Janie Westerman, Jerry and Faye Makovec, all of Marion; Mitzi and John Love, Burdick; Lodina Marlene Christner, Sterling, Colorado; Mark and Diane Hebrank, grandchild, and friend, Douglasville, Georgia; Mayme Franta and Kim Riemann, El Dorado; Jim Frier, Winfield; and Jane Skipton, Bentonville, Arkansas.
