Kansas Farm Bureau is promoting a drive to send a strong message to Congress opposing the proposed climate change cap-and-trade legislation.

Their message, “Don’t cap our future,” refers to their belief, based on analyses from numerous sources, that farmers and ranchers will pay more for fuel, fertilizer, and energy if the proposed legislation becomes law.

Farmers are worried that these additional expenses and a shift in land use would lead to a decrease in food production in the United States.

According to Steve Backhus, president of Kansas Farm Bureau, Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback are two of the most vocal opponents to cap-and-trade.

“They need our voices to help them convince their Senate colleagues who don’t yet see things our way,” he said.
