Few changes on 2016 tax forms are likely, area tax preparers say.

Tax preparer Melody Freeman of Meier Tax Service said refunds involving education and earned income credits will arrive more slowly because the Internal Revenue Service will verify information first.

Family members who have international taxpayer identification numbers instead of Social Security numbers will need to update those numbers, but that won’t affect the majority of Marion County residents.

Employees will see increased payroll deductions for such things as Medicare in 2017, Freeman said.

The biggest change for the tax preparer is related to taxpayer security, Public accountant Ken Koslowsky said.

“We have to see a drivers license,” Koslowsky said. “It does affect the taxpayer’s time.”

Tax preparer Woody Crawshaw said he could find no changes on deductions or tax rates that would affect typical taxpayers.
