Fireworks sales to help pay for camp

The Marion High School class of 2013 will have a fireworks stand in the Marion Youth Center, across from Amrpide in Marion.

The booster club for Boy Scouts Troop 102 of Marion also is selling fireworks to help defray the cost of scouts to go camping this summer.

The stand is in front of Carlson TV & Satellite, 1111 E. Main St.

Troop 102 will leave Kansas for summer camp July 17 for the second consecutive year.

In 2009 and earlier, the troop usually went to Quivira Scout Ranch near Sedan. But in 2010 the troop was ready to try something different, Scoutmaster Terry Holt said.

Troop 102 spent a week at Hale Scout Reservation in southeast Oklahoma, near Talihina. Talihina is about 350 miles from Marion.

“It was an excellent camp, and we decided to do it again,” Holt said.

He expects 10 scouts to go to camp. They will be in Oklahoma July 17 to 23.
