Flooding keeps train in Marion

A train stopped along Union Pacific tracks northwest of Marion because of flooding near its undisclosed destination will remain here 7 to 10 days.

Some cargo has been removed because it is flammable, but the situation should be safe, police chief Clinton Jeffrey said.

“They assured me it’s flammable, but not very combustible,” Jeffrey said. “There’s not a high likelihood anything is going to happen.”

Police and a Union Pacific agent will keep an eye on the train, Jeffrey said.

“They don’t want it there anymore than us,” he said. “They’re losing money the longer it sits there.”
