The Kansas Food Bank of Wichita gave five tons of food to Marion residents Thursday, helping 150 families and 424 people.
“That’s pretty close to what we do every time,” volunteer Gene Winkler said. “We went through it all in just over an hour, too.”
The bank gave food at the Marion Senior Center, but has done it at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in the past.
“This is one of my favorite things to do,” volunteer Frank Key said. “We get to actually meet the people we’re giving food to.”
The food bank gave out corn, green beans, tomato soup, mayonnaise, regular and sweet potatoes, ramen noodles, soda, meat, cakes, pies, and bread.
Winkler said they also gave away 148 turkeys and 160 packages of sausage.
