Francis Doc Hartke

Francis “Doc” Hartke, 88, of Herington died April 10, 2012, at his home.

He was born March 1, 1924, near Lincolnville to Arthur H. “Pop” and Lydia A. (Pagenkopf) Hartke.

He graduated from Lincolnville High School in 1942. He worked at O’Connor Ford & Mercury and for the Rock Island Railroad in Herington. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Claney R. McClaren American Legion Post No. 12, both in Herington.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw action in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star.

He married Cladine M. Richmond on July 31, 1946, in Herington. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Cindy Schlesener of Ulysses; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was April 13 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. Troy Slater officiating. Burial with full military honors was at Lincolnville Cemetery.
