Fred Podszus

Fred Podszus, 94, passed away on Aug. 5, 2009, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion.

He was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Enid, Okla., son of the Rev. Franz and Helen (Albrecht) Podszus.  

Besides Lincolnville, he lived in Surprise, Neb.; Russell; and McAllen, Texas. 

On Sept. 22, 1940, he married Viola Nuss at Michaelis Church in Russell County. 

He retired from Beech Aircraft of Salina.  He also had been a farmer and a butcher, working locally at Tiemeyer Market in Lincolnville.

He enjoyed woodworking. He was known for his gentle kindness and great sense of humor. He served as an usher for church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Podszus, and siblings, Carl Podszus, Linda Reimann, and Trudy Hartke. 

He is survived by his sons, Rodney of Colorado Springs and Stephen of Lincolnville; four grandchildren,  Rebecca of Olympia, Wash.; Deborah Tomczak of Duisburg, Germany; Matthew of Lawrence; and Kristen Fuller of Colorado Springs; three great-grandchildren, Luca Fuller and Sophia and Elsa Podszus; and brothers,  Hans of Bella Vista, Ark.; and Harry of Joplin, Mo. 

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Lincolnville with the Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating.

Interment was in Lincolnville Cemetery. 

A memorial fund has been established for the church in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Marion KS 66861
