From the Sidelines

In just one week the Marion High School spring sports season is starting to turn around — for the better.

The golf and track and field teams have been successful all year, but the softball and baseball teams were slow to get out of the gates.

Through 12 games, the baseball team was 1-11 and the softball team was winless.

However, both had 2-2 weeks to give them some respectability, and more importantly, momentum heading toward regionals.

The bats are starting to come alive for both teams, and that makes them much more fun to watch.

The golf team also did well this week, taking second place at the Bennington Invitational, and third at Sacred Heart.

Luke Gordon took first at Bennington and Lindsay Hett was eighth — her best finish as a varsity golfer.

The track and field squads continued their strong runs with good showings Friday at Beloit Relays.

Julia Zeiner won the long jump and set a meet record while doing so with a leap of 18 feet even.

She also won the triple jump and took third in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Kristen Steinborn, still battling a hamstring injury, toughed-it out and took fifth place in the javelin.

Whitney Gordon was fourth in the high jump and Danae Edwards placed fourth in the 400m dash.

On the boys’ side Elliot Hett, Tylor Neil, and Luke Gordon all earned golds at the relays.

The 4x800 relay squad of Ryan Jones, Louis Holt, Adam Regnier, and Eric Vogel took first as well, and Mitchell Leppke was second in the javelin.

If the recent success continues, it could be a fun time to be a Warriors’ fan.
