Garrard ends college career with another record-breaker

Staff writer

Centre graduate Justin Garrard has completed his college career at Ottawa University as an NAIA All-American and four-time Academic All-American.

Garrard set his sixth school record and personal best running the marathon in 2 hours, 34 minutes, 43 seconds May 23 at the NAIA Outdoor National Track Meet in St. Louis.

He finished sixth in the event nationally.

Garrard said he felt drained afterward.

“I couldn’t walk or see very well for a while,” he said. “It took several days to walk normally again.”

Garrard graduated magna cum laude May 16 and recently moved to Topeka to pursue a career in business administration. He plans to continue running every day and participate in long-distance competitions as opportunities arise.

His parents are John and Sandra Garrard of Lincolnville.
