LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:   Gene Winkler

To the editor:

I have always been a very active member of the community. For a town to survive, a lot of people have to pitch in to make things happen. I try to do my part and appreciate it when others do the same, but sometimes a willingness to volunteer is not all that’s needed.

For some time Marion has been stuck in a cycle of controversy. Our government has been burdened with bickering. We seem to lurch from problem to problem. We don’t plan and avoid problems, we are reactive, always playing catch-up. Finger-pointing and crying foul seem to dominate the headlines.

It is time for leadership. Marion needs a mayor who has demonstrated the ability to solve problems, who can wisely lead our city in a businesslike manner. We have been spinning our wheels for too long.

I have had the pleasure of working with Todd Heitschmidt on a number of projects and organizations. As a business leader in the community, he knows how to get things done. As mayor, he will stabilize our government. He will bring leadership to meetings and direction to employees. He will guide our city toward growth and an improved economy. He will lead.

I plan to cast my vote for Todd Heitschmidt for mayor of Marion. I have seen him in action, and know he is the person this city needs, to get us moving in the right direction. I urge my friends in the city to do the same and elect Todd mayor.
