George Svitak

George J. Svitak, 83, died Saturday at Marion Assisted Living. He was born July 3, 1930, to John and Victoria (Franta) Svitak of Pilsen.

He was a lifelong Pilsen resident. He was a farmer and worked for Hesston Corp — now AGCO — for 30 years.

He married Charlene Krch on Oct. 10, 1950, in Pilsen.

He was a member of the Midwestern Polka Club and had played in polka bands in Pilsen, including the Blue Aces and the Pilsen Polka Pals. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, and a son, Todd. He is survived by two sons, Doug of Lincolnville and Randy of Pilsen; a sister, Sylvia Bezdek of Lost Springs; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, and funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, both at Holy Family Parish, St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Interment will follow in the Pilsen Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with the Father Kapaun Fund and St. Anne’s Altar Society.
