CENTRE BASKETBALL:   Girls

The outcome Friday of the Centre High School girls’ varsity game against Solomon seemed bleak from the beginning.

The Lady Cougars went scoreless in the first quarter until Carlye Simons made a free throw. They trailed, 14-1, at the end of the quarter.

Their scoring improved in the next three quarters but each quarter left them farther behind, and they were defeated, 48-26.

Shelby Deines led Centre’s scoring with six points. Leann Pankratz had five, Allison Shields four, Simons and Sammi Seifert three each, Josie Peterson two, and Amanda Floyd and D.J. Turner one each.

The junior varsity was defeated in three quarters, 22-15. Scorers were Theo Kassebaum and Peterson, five points each, Seifert three, and Katie Remy two.

The varsity will compete next week in a 1A regional tournament at Madison.
