Goesel museum plans quilt, car shows

Quilted wall décor and vintage cars and trucks will be the focus of two events this weekend at Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum, 200 N. Poplar St., Goessel.

“Once upon a wall…” will feature quilted wall hangings displayed in fairy tale settings in the Preparatory School, Immigrant House, and Goessel State Bank building. Wall hanging owners loaning their pieces for the show are from south central Kansas and Nebraska.

The wall hanging show will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4 for Friday and Saturday and includes a self-guided tour of the eight-building museum complex.

The museum’s fourth annual Antique and Classic Car and Truck Show will be noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It will feature automobiles, trucks, and motorcycles manufactured 1900 through 1980 in any condition. Awards will be presented. The rain date for the show will be June 26.

A gate fee of $5 on Sunday includes admission to the quilt and car show, car show exhibitor entry fee, and a self-guided tour of the museum complex.

A silent auction will be throughout the weekend for “Sunflowers and Wild Geraniums,” a wheat marquetry piece created by wheat straw artists Marie and Martha Voth of North Newton. Bidding will begin Friday and end at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Telephone bids will be accepted at (620) 367-8200.
