Goessel falls to Centre

Staff writer

The speed and quickness of homecoming king Ty Simons was too much for the Goessel Bluebirds to defend Friday during the game at Centre High School. He scored 41 points in the 67-60 Centre victory, including 16 of 18 from the free throw line, 11 of those in the fourth quarter. He also had three 3-point field goals.

Goessel held its own in the first quarter, trailing by one, 18-17. In addition to Simon’s 14 points, Kyle Methvin and Conner Montgomery each made a field goal.

Centre jumped to a big lead in the second quarter, ending the half with a 36-26 advantage.

The margin remained about the same in the third quarter. Goessel outscored Centre 19-15 in the fourth quarter, including 3-point shots by Lucas Hiebert and Zach Showalter, but the Cougars walked away with a 7-point victory.

Methvin finished the game in double figures, with 12 points. Montgomery had 8 points, Dakota Stimpson 5, and Grant Srajer, 1.

Simons had 13 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, and 3 assists. Methvin had 9 rebounds and 1 assist. Chad Mueller had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Montgomery had 1 rebound and 3 assists.

Centre won 53-47 against Elyria Christian on Tuesday.
