Golf will build on last year’s experience

Contributing writer

Sophomores and juniors coming out for the Goessel High School golf team this year will have little experience in competition.

“We only have three returning letter-winners from last season,” coach Chad Lindeman said. “Our junior varsity players only played in two events because weather cancelled many JV events last year.”

Seniors Reece Hiebert and Zach Showalter, along with junior Lucas Hiebert will be the core group of the varsity golf team. Last year, these three players scored in the upper 90’s and close to 100. With more experience and a desire to improve, strides could be made to lower those scores.

Even those with little experience will have a chance at seeing some action at the varsity level. By the end of the season, Lindeman will put together a group of six players that will represent the Bluebirds at the regional golf tournament on May 19.

The Bluebirds begin the season at Herington on April 8.
